great sky!

the plant life seems rather amorphous, can't decide exactly what type of plant it's supposed to be ... corn is what comes to mind. VERY healthy corn in a strong wind.

I'd like to see a bit more of the yellow in the lower right corner ...

you're brave to do pastels, everytime I put my hands on them it's a disaster!

Thanks Jeanette! This is from my home state of Oklahoma in the spring. The prairies have these different kinds of grasses that when you look out from an elevated position it is almost like looking at waves and the ocean. I do need to have some other types of grass and flowers towards the base. Thanks for prodding my memory. *SMILE*

you seem to be in cahoots with impulse on this!
pastels, long grass, a path, the sky.
largely the palette too.

Jerry...yep! I was inspired by Impulse's work! *SMILE* but I believe his was at the lake or ocean. Mine is the prairie...semi dry area. Where the buffalo roamed.

I almost expect to walk down that path and come out on a beautiful lake or something. The beautiful cool colors are making me want to see the ocean. http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thank you Sonia...I remixed this pastel a little here and there. This is the final version.

Oh yes, I like the reworked version.
There is more going on now.

Some of my favorite colors are in there.

Hi,
You have a great left to right rythm going. The wind blowing the grass is also in the sky.
As you have already done, I would add even more layers and colors. Pastel works great in layers. For example the dark side of the clouds I would add some orange.

Suz...thanks for the comments...why orange in particular?

Fagan:

I like both versions, though I must admit I liked the first version just a bit better.

But--

--lose the birds!

(They are too 'cartooney/cutesy', where the rest of it looks lush.

Bev, this medium suits your style very well. I'd like to see more. On this piece (which I like a lot!) there are two areas that I think need some work. The white clouds in the top right quadrant are too white and bright and need to be toned with something (if only lightly and worked in). The bright blue grass in the reworked piece could probably use going over in different colors. Very nice work http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/cool.gif

Rosanna...thank you for your comments *SMILE*

Keith...I think I prefer the first one myself. I am not sure how to get rid of something that dark with pastels. (birds)

Impulse...the clouds are a little bright. I have this painting on ebay at this time..so I may not be able to make any changes.
