Stopped. Not done.
A bit more washed out than I hoped, but I must ponder some more...

You can go look at it in the pastel forum too along with the photo this time...

I love the dichotomy of the mother's traditional costume and the child's modern clothes. The only thing I might suggest is that when I first saw it I was confused briefly by the child's hand that is toward the mother's back. Once I looked at it a second I thought, "Duh, of course, its his little fist." It didn't puzzle me for long but if it locked my attention even briefly perhaps you might want to indicate fingers ever so slightly more.
Great though...I love it.

Dj, I have been looking at these pastels of the Indians that you have been doing and I like them a lot. They are loose and sketchy and seem to posses a little bit of magic. http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif
Using watercolour paper for pastel and putting down a wash first is something I did'nt know about - I like the idea of that, something new to try out.

This is very high level work. The spontaneity of the moment is expertly crafted.

It's very nice and touching.
it shows the love that mothers have so dearly to their young ones.
