I have been working on this off and on and thought I would post it here also for input from the dog loves. The WIP is in the CP forum if you care to look.

the upload doesn't show that it's on a blue/grey board and not near this dark ...sigh

does it need a bkgrd color besides the board color?

any C&C welcome

Laurie

Laurie, it looks really nice. I don't think it needs b/g color. I like it the way it is. I looked at your Great Horned Owl on website,( I'm doing a Short Eared Owl, wip in oil), which is also good. So, right now, I'm looking at all the owl pictures/paintings/sketches I can.

thank you for your comment I havent decided yet so will sit on it for a few days.

Your in for a real challenge when it comes to the feathers but I love challenges. I will keep a watch for your post when you get into the owl.

Nope, a background would be too fussy and distracting (much less a challenge, to match the fine touch you display with the dog).

I'm wondering about the edge below his eye, though.

Should it not be more vertical? A little bit like this?

thank you Dave .. I think he does too love the dalmations when they come to show here.

OH MY David I believe you may have found what has been bugging me about that eye for a long while. Going to take a look at the grid ref again. Thank you for your eye on this (no pun intended) and comment.

Very nice portrait - love the background color of the paper. I thinks maybe just a hint of a shadow behind him might help set off his face. He kind of fades away there at the far edge of his face. His spots are such a strong contrast, a soft shadow might help pull the viewer's eye back to his face. Love the touches of pink on his muzzle!
