View Full Version : WDE Mar 9 - Birds in Strange spring mist & poppies

03-13-2012, 12:04 AM
Experiment with water color background & masking approach on primed 7 x 5 in stretched canvas lead to creation of " the birds on a wire in a strange spring mist" ...Maybe the green color inserted meets the challenge of some spring colour; the finish is like a new yogurt flavor, you may have to acquire appreciation for the taste..:) besides the w/c, I used pen and subtle fluid acrylics; Much of the background foliage type effect is from w/c effects of salt on the wet paint; 1 1/2 hrs;
Easier on the artistic taste buds is my take on the Orange poppies; 12 x 9 ins, canvas board, fluid acrylics; Thoroughly enjoyed this one; 2 1/2 hrs;

Love the experiment on the BIRDS...and as much as it's not my fav between the 2 you did - there is def something about it that keeps bringing me back to it. It's kinda eerie, scary in a primative way...not sure!
The poppies are just beautiful.
I really need to try some liquid acrylics.

Great job on the new yogurt flavour. Your little poppies are certainly better than mine (still in progress).

Had to laugh at yoghurt flavour Richard!
Love the effect though - that's a really nice piece - love the poppies too ...... both pieces very effective.:)

Richard, I love your experiments! The birds are wonderful. Poppies are popping as they should and both are easy on the eye. Bravo!

Both are great, Richard! I especially like the salt-induced foliage!

I like the birds, the pen work and the background and especially the colour make it a really interesting piece. Love your poppies as well but the birds are my favourite.

The birds are really cool. Really an attention grabber.

I like your experiments with the first one. The temperature is slightly high on it and could be cooled down with the opposite blue.
The poppies are bold, the only suggestion here is to hide some of the stem in shadow to create a visual depth.

Interesting technique Richard and I like what you did here. I love the idea of your experiment on small canvas - created a wonderful background.
The poppies are really good - a striking painting.

Both are excellent but I absolutely adore your experiment on the birds. So unique.

Ohh.. Its a good thing I don't have to pick between the two of them. Though I like your experimentation of the background on the birds on a wire.
