View Full Version : WDE 9 Mar 12 - 'Recession' and 'Vintage Fire Truck' MI

I started 3 this weekend.

One in gouache which I had out already whilst doing the gouache challenge piece, one in pen and wash and one in acrylic.

Unfortunately, it took longer to prep and dry the background on the acrylic yesterday so I did the fire truck.

I intended to finish the acrylic today but I've been in a LOT of pain so can't sit at the table. I've did the others in my chair. I decided to post the 2 I'd done. I finsihed the shop Friday night but was going to post them all together.

Gouache on A4 300gsm paper
2 hours (ish)

I started this one last night after having to give up on the acrylic and did it from my chair.

'Vintage Fire truck'
A4 300gsm watercolour paper
Artline Drawign System ink pens
watercolour pans
White ink

off and on approx 2 hours. I had to keep stopping and starting and also drying time. Finished it off today.

Will post the acrylic one when I've finished it.

Thanks K for hosting  and providing so many refs - I like so many and have kept a few.

Thanks for looking

Me, too, like the building and the story it tells very well but that truck you did in your chair is simply stunning! I hope you will be feeling well enough to do some more; really enjoy your work!

Thanks for liking these. Here's another I 'knocked up' in my chair while watching TV last night. Started during one show and finished towards end of the other so must be less than 2 hours including drying time.

'3 Little Birds'
10" x 7" 300gsm
Cotman CP NOT paper
White Knights Pans

I hope to finish my acrylic today and got up a couple of hours earlier to givemyself a chance as I have a meeting to go to tonight.

Wow, you have been busy this week. All great paintings but I LOVE this little birdy one.

Grocery store is festive in its easter bonnet colors. Birds are great, but that truck is outstanding. Wonderful painting.

I love all the color you gave the old store...beautiful!!

The truck is wonderful. Love all the colors you used to make it old and rusty. Great crop of it too!

And the wood of the post in the birds painting is so real. Pretty sky too.

Wow! Amazing work on all 3, Lin!!

you have breathed new live into the grocery store, wonderful colors

All are Great! I love the colors in the store. I have a personal love of old trucks, so the second is Terrific! And also, the "birds on a wire" - excellent.

Both are great but I really love the fire engine. Oh just saw the birds -- very nice! You 'watch' tv like I do -- painting or drawing. (I have a TV in my studio).

The truck is amazing, I love how you have transformed the old and discarded into a thing of beauty.

Yes amazing work on all three! I was really attracted to the truck but when I saw the third one I was awed by the mood that you captured. I just love your paintings! I hope you feel better and be up and about in no time.

I adore your title and interpretation of the farmers market; the truck is very nicely done....like the rust marks and the shine; and the bird painter is also a winner!

all very good Lin love the birds on the wire

03-14-2012, 09:22 AM

The truck is my fav!

Great job on all of these but the truck is definitely my favourite. Reminiscences of a somewhat misspent youth.

The truck is amazing, I love how you have transformed the old and discarded into a thing of beauty. that's what I'm always trying to do with myself!

Thanks all for comments

'mispent youth - hmm I darne't ask why an old fire truck gives you reminiscences.

Still got another but I'll post on a separate thread. It's taken me all week as i've only been able to do a little at a time and I'm back 'on air' at work now so Tuesdays are out and had meetings and errands. So I hope to finish it today.
