Thanks Kate, for some great photos.
This week, I read about someone who draws every day on the train going into work. It has inspired me to stop looking for subjects and just do it!
I decided the horse would be a good candidate for color. This is digital watercolor done in Painter 9. I did a quick sketch and then just kept adding soft diffused color-avoiding black and grey whenever possible.
I'm not sure when, but I'd like to try him in different colors and different digital media and in watercolor pencils- just see where I take him.

All comments and critiques welcome.

Round 2, I decided to try the chalks in Painter. I wanted a dark background, but trying to keep myself away from grey or black. He certainly has personality if not anatomical acuracy.

Again, C&C requested.

The old grey mare looks happier in the first picture and sad in the second. Looking forward to your additional creativity digital art works. Just do it, is a good attitude towards art procrastinators, of which I am one.

Love your great horses, Elaine! Reminds me of Wizard Of Oz's "Horse Of A Different Color"! :)

Personality indeed! I almost felt sorry for him before; he was a bit plain looking. You made him gorgeous!

I'm not sure which version I like the best. Both are really great! I like the soft look of the first and the pastels in the second. Great digis!

Both are really great - love your colours - and great experimenting different effects. I wish I could sketch every day but at least I can find inspiration here in wde for a few a week.

Thank you all for your encouragement. Looking at the second on this morning, I realize he looks sad, because his face is just too thin. I'll work on it later. Looking at something fresh the next day does wonders!

I like both of these. The different media gives him two completely different characters.
