I'm going to St. Augustine, FL, for my honeymoon in May. Somehow, I doubt I'll get the time to do a firsthand sketch down of anything, but I do plan on getting some photos to work on later. If you've never been to St. Augustine, it is the oldest city in the US. It's a beautiful place with lots of history. I was wondering if anyone here is familiar with this city? Any ideas on where I could go to find some subject matter? There's always the Spanish fort, but that seems rather cliche...

Hi Matttscott, first, congratulations on your upcomming marriage! ST.Augustine is such a wonderful city! I absolutley love it there! i'm about two hours away & we get there as often as we can. You will have no problem in gathering tons of photos of art-worthy subjects! you probably won't know where to start. There are hundreds of buildings & other landmarks, such as, the bridge of lions (located right in the hub,you can't miss it) that you'll want to shoot. But i highly recommend taking a look at Flagler College. it's located just a couple of blocks from the old city (the old city is the major tourist, shopping area, again you can't miss it) The very best thing for you to do is to take one of the many carriage rides. They're everywhere, & the guides are very informative & take you past many points of interest. (also very romantic for honeymooners!!! http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gifHave fun....Cheryl

I did a painting from the cemetery there in St Augustine...it is a wonderful mechancholy spot. The alley ways offer a lot of little gardens tucked away from the casual observer and just the shops themselves are a delight for the artistic eye. Also the wharf and the old churches!!! Get off the beaten path and you will find wonderful old trees, weather beaten and dripping with spanish moss.
Have a wonderful honeymoon!
Don't know the area ,but would like congratulate you and to wish you both all the happiness love and life can bring,
