Sennelier's French Artists' Watercolors - new formula and new colors!

Sennelier has spent a long time working with watercolor artist worldwide in order to update and improve their line of Artists' watercolor to meet the needs of today's artists. Well the wait is over and the newly revamped line is now available! The new Sennelier French Artists' Watercolors line expands the number of colors to 98 with nearly all colors having three star very-good lightfast ratings. The honey content has also been increased giving these colors a wonderful flow and when dry, they have a distinctive satin luminosity known as a "French finish".

Sennelier still creates these watercolors with their unique and meticulous process; presoaking the pigments in purified water for a minimum of 24 hours to better fuse with the top quality Kordofan Gum Arabic and then adding honey as the bonding agent for flawless color washes. The honey serves as a preservative as well as an additive for luminosity, brilliance and color intensity. Ground in the traditional way using slowly rotating grind stones to avoid heating the paste, the process is carried out over several stages until the pigments as fine as possible to create the perfect wash.

We would love to hear comments from artists who have had a chance to try these new watercolors!

FAQs
Q. What are the new colors in the Sennelier French Artists' Watercolor line?
A. Some old colors are gone, some colors have had name and/or pigment changes and some brand new colors have been introduced. Since there have been so many changes made, it may be easier (and less confusing!) to check out the new color chart on the Sennelier website here. This new color chart also lists the lightfast ratings, pigments used and the transparency of each individual color.

In terms of handling, you will most likely find little difference, although you may find they tend to rehydrate more evenly. The difference is largely one of appearance.
