Hi all-

This is a study done for a larger painting. It is about 4 x 6 inches on American Journey paper with Remberandt and American Journey paints.

It is taken from a picture I took in the Smokey Mountains. Carolina Falls is not the actual name of the location. Just something from my head.

Please critique, either good or bad.

I LOVE the composition! Especially the birches in the left foreground.

I would like the see the background trees and scenery a little cooler and down in tone - I think they need sending back just a touch.

Wow, excellent study. Am interested to see how you handle your larger work from this.

Hi John,

Lovely painting, colors are wonderful together. I especially like the birches on the left foreground and the way you've painted the background.

When you paint the larger one, could you move the water a little to the right so it isn't cutting the painting almost in half vertically?

Also, I would like to see a little more color splashes where the water is falling over the rocks.

This should make a really lovely larger painting.

John... you've done a fabulous job of your study... The birch trees are wonderful... I really like the pine tree that's leaning in the upper right hand portion, but I think it's taking me out of the picture... While not true to your photo, could you lean it toward the stream?

Looks good John....... might define the light source a tad more for the larger one.......

Thanks to all who stopped by and those who commeted.

matingara- I agree and am making the trees darker.

painterbear- am moving the water a bit more off center. Thanks

CharM- you bet! Tree now leans in to the picture.

Al22- I agree.
ripvanblair- I am changing the color of the trees quite a bit. You are right about the colors.

taghera- Thanks for the pointer.
