Hi guys,

I re-painted this scene of a village on Pulau Ubin (Pulau means Island in Malay)... there's a WIP of the same painting which I did last year in the Sticky Thread, although I changed the composition a bit to bring the huts closer to the viewer.

This is the WIP thread of the previous painting (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=77453&perpage=15&pagenumber=1)

9.5" x 12" on Terschelling Rough ... it seems that I CAN paint more loosely in smaller size since there is less space for me to do the details... lol

Lovely, Marvin, yes you can paint more loosely. You can paint anything and in any manner you choose.

I have compositional question, remembering that I have zero compositional skills, ok: I expect to see rooflines lighter in background and nearest tree lines in lighter value from dark greens. From top: darker value sky and beginning trees, than lighter value light trees and any sky showing. Than, lighter value rooftops going darker values rooftops. i.e., dark...light...light...dark. Of course relating the values to time of day you have set the scene.

This post is incomprehensible, even to me, so feel free to say you do not understand and push the back button. :D

Another great one Marvin. Your loose style is also excellent...

Fookie, do you mean elements lightening in the background to push focal point and foreground forward? That's what I thought you meant. Kind of like atmospheric perspective but exaggerated.

 Marvin, love the textures. Something about the other one that I liked even better, unsure what :). Very well done.

Hey Marvin, how's it going?! See you've lost none of your talent. You're going from strength-to-strength. Beautiful work.
