Hi, gang. This is a small one from some photos I took a couple of weeks ago. Approximately 5" x 7" on Arches CP, W/N paints, brain set at half-idle.

Critiques and Comments are indeed welcome!

beautiful pansies--I would love to do a painting like this at half idle. My mind is usually in that mode.

This is gorgeous -- I am in awe of those who can paint this well with watercolor. It is so vivid yet soft, real yet loose. Thank you for sharing this here.

Love the colors--would like to see a little deeper purple (Pampe's not here LOL) in the throats of pansies--but it's a very nice rendering!

Lyn

P.S. Is this Blackberry Winter?

Thanks, mimaL, Sandy1, babybrush, Adrienne, JanJones, walerian, Blueyog, al22 and artmom!

Artmom, I believe we indeed are having blackberry winter. It's worth it when they're in season, tho. Nothing like fresh blackberry jam on a hot biscuit with butter. Yum.

I agree with Lyn... Every time I paint something, I hear this little nagging voice way back in the recesses of my brain... DARKER...DARKER...MORE DARKS... In the end, she's always right!!!

BTW... I have background envy... Yours is spectacular...

My brain would need to be working at full-throttle to paint pansies as nice as these! They're beautiful!

Lovely rendition of the pansies. Soft and velvety, also nice soft background. Great job. Amazing to just knock something off like this. :)

Thanks, charM, Gilberte, Giselle, fun2cook and hopefulbucky! I may try some darks in there this weekend - I was afraid to do too much more - didn't want to muck it up or go too tight.

I appreciate the input! All have a great weekend!

I sometimes don't understand other people's fixation with dark colors!! ... sure contrast is nice, but it's not a must :D

Your picture is nicely balanced, it looks ethereal, very delicate.

Well done!

couldn't agree more with Loki! I was just going to comment on how I thought your tonal range was good and compliment you on the nice contrast.

This is a lovely painting. Everytime I see pansies I think of Tennessee and an early spring trip to Lynchburg where they were blooming so beautifully! Wish I could make them do the same up here.

I like this, a good balance between soft and hard edges, pure color..
BTW your tiny head makes my very curious :D

Thanks, Loki, Cinnamon, sharon and capricorne! Cinnamon, this spring has been particularly beautiful - the pansies are still pretty and the dogwoods kept their blooms for the longest time. It was inspirational.

Capricorne, it only gets worse as you go up. :D

Again, thanks for looking and commenting!
