View Full Version : Egg tempera violet rose

My second egg tempera painting! I painted this from a photo shared about a year ago in the Floral/Botanical forum by Delmus Phelps. 5"x7" on Ampersand Claybord. I still have only a few powdered pigments, so some of my colors were made from tube watercolor mixed with egg yolk. I did my underpainting as a monochrome with mars violet egg tempera. That pigment is very opaque, so I was able to bring the dark portions down to a dark value very quickly.

Beautiful rose, soft and velvet looking. Could be the actual rose from your picture. Lovely.
