Watercolor underpainting on 90lb paper (11 x 15) using mostly Daniel Smith paints. Approx 1 hour includes drawing.

2 hour mark...started using pastels (I need help!!)

Calling it done at the 3 hour mark. I could keep playing with it all day but I think I'll hit the beach instead.

Close up mug shot of this poor lion.

Whoops I just lost my previous post.
He's lovely Valri! I love the close-up, he looks really bored with all this sitting and posing for portraits.

Wonderful colors and cave. Lion looks content. Wish I could go to the beach today...good idea, but its only 46 degrees here.

I really like your approach. I think you should do more of these!

Well I think he looks pretty good - and nice touch with the pastels. It's good to jump out of your comfort zone and do something you normally don't do - but hey, your pelican was good and that's an animal.

I like this abstract approach to the setting - and as the images unrolled, Mr. Lion took on a more human face! ......... if you carried on, would he transform totally I wonder? :D

I noticed his face looking human when I first drew it so I knew I would be in trouble from the start!!!!

And Rozzi commented saying that my pelican was an animal...true but with a beak you can def know it's an animal and not this mutated half human half beast that I made!!!

In the spirit of.....

I love him with his sweet, sleepy, satisfied face - the colors seem to reflect the setting sun - all very appropriate and makes a good portrait of this regal beast!

He is great, philosophical face..

I love the underpainting, he looks more like a lion to me, don't see the humanistic quality, unless you are thinking of a mutation (remember the show 'Vincent" ?) the pastels add a nice touch

He seems content in that nice cave effect background...and he knows he is a lion...like it!

Thanks for all your kind words too....I love all of you - MUAH!!
