Morning JT and all who come in after me.
12:01 a.m. and I'm watching the bonus "Graham Norton" show on BBCA. Love GN--he's a wonderful wit.

I've painted just a bit this evening, finished one, will finish the other tomorrow. Looking forward to staying in tomorrow, too much running around today. Last spring I planted a cactus, which was about 2" in height. It has grown like a weed and has blossoms buds. I am so excited, the buds stay green and tightly furled for quite awhile; Shim and I check them daily. Tonight when I got home Shim and I went out on the patio and on the hill I saw a spot of orange color!!! Amazed! Tightly furled yesterday and wide open today! I try to get a picture tomorrow am as it was in deep shade when I saw it. So, that's my news. See you later.

Morning Jaytee, morning Fookie!
Fookie - looking forward to seeing the pics of your cactus.
We're getting a nice response in the wastercolour portrait exchange. Some are wondering where the boys are? Hey, you in the hat ... and anyone else who is interested.
I have to say, last week was more fun when I was on vacation ... gotta run!
Take care.

Belly has been feeling grouchy for a few days now.....some virus bug thing going around, more annoying than painful!
Started a new painting last night which has turned into a WIP, it's a rose and Sandy's wonderful roses are still in progress , so wish me luck...I may need it! LOL!
Friend is popping over this afternoon with her Daughter, so not much time to paint today :( Is it called addiction when you actually become unsociable over your art? I am so desperate to start my new painting I almost asked them not to come!
Oh well, must be off, my boys have challenged me to a game of Swingball.......remember that game?

Have a good day everyone and paint all day if you can, 'cos I can't! :(

Good Morning all,

It is only 6:00 a.m. here in Ohio. The sky is beginning to get lighter outside my window, and the birds are beginning to waken and sing. I really enjoy this peaceful time of day.

Yesterday was yard day for my husband and I. While he mowed the grass, I raked the garden and planted my Italian parsley, two kinds of lettuce, and swiss chard. I plotted out where the cucumbers, tomatoes, and Italian Roma-type Beans were going to go when it gets a little warmer too. The trick now is going to be keeping the squirrels from digging and burying things where I've planted my seeds. They drive me nuts!

I also painted a small picture of a Greek temple. I tried using Pam's and Em's techniques, and it was going along great guns, but I messed it up at the end. Somehow, my pink and blue columns just didn't have the panache theirs do, so I put a wash of light gray over them and now they look dead. I may do it over again and try it with more conventional colors to see if I like it better.

We are getting ready to go to Pennsylvania on Sunday to stay with our grandson, Quinn, for a couple of days while his mom and dad take a mini-vacation. We are hoping for good weather so we can take Quinn to the zoo one day. Love going to the zoo with little kids, they make it fun.

Good to see you posting again, Jaytee. Glad your hands seem to be getting better.

Fookie, I think Shimmie is going to be the first Pomeranian to earn a badge in horticulture. BTW, I would love to have the recipe for Potica that you mentioned in the Wash a couple of days ago. I didn't get back to the Wash yesterday to tell you I would appreciate your sending it to me. Beside painting, International foods and recipes are a hobby of mine. I love to try different things, and I'm lucky that my husband and kids enjoy eating them too.

Hope everyone has time to do all the painting they want, and the good health to be able to enjoy the wonderful Spring weather we are having (or Fall if you are on the other side of the globe).

See you later.

Hi everyone,

Nothing much done today... just running errands and browsing WC! (lurking)... hmm.. and no painting done .... it's 6.30pm now and I'm about to have dinner.

Speaking of dinner, remember the little shop I rented from Alan's Lincoln City?...  :p where I serve Chinese meal?

Yeah... see it for real, man! Haven't cooked for a long time but since my "unemployment" days, I've been dishing out some easy-to-cook meal now and then... :)

Celerie and meatballs (left) and the famous Marvin's Kung Pau Chicken with fried egg and sausages... LOL haven't tasted them yet... waiting for Adeline to return and eat them together.... hmm.. I sound like a homemaker now

.... and the aftermath   LOL

04-24-2003, 06:47 AM
Hi Again.......... parcel arrived safely........stuff to recharge my good tummy bugs after anti-b's. :D

Anita......... you're better than me.... I'd use the tummy bug as an reason to put off visitors and paint

Fookie and Sylvia.............. isnt it exciting planting seeds, watching them come up and seeing buds burst into bloom. Its fascinating to think that across the world one of you is so in sync with nature here in UK - i planted lots of veggie seed just before the infamous bite ! - and the other so totally different with desert cactus

Marvin......... your pics remind me Ive not eaten breakfast yet :D

Fun2cook.......... I love your WASTERCOLOUR ........... thats just what I do waste colour

Raining here at last......... so may get some urgent papersorting done........ or may have a late go at Chinatown ...... ooooh and sort project judging............. if I get painting done wonder if youll let me have a postponed through injury late entry....... though got to get a result first.... it will be, I think the fifith attempt........... also with a motherwash so likely to ruin it in final stages agian too :( After that I shall watch the grass shoot up again :D

04-24-2003, 07:38 AM
Good Morning Washuns...

JT... Not only do you have your hands back in working order, but it seems your energy as returned full tilt...

Fookie... looking forward to your pics. The place I work at in Monterrey has cacti growing all over the place... wild. Everything always looks so brown and dry and parched... Then... all the blossoms of these "weeds" open and it's absolutely spectacular. I've never bothered to get pictures, but next time I'm down there I'll take my camera...

Mary-Ann... You've probably left for the day... but I know what you mean... Any more, when I take holidays I hate to go back to work... I keep thinking, hmmmm I could really retire and live like this... hehehe

Nitsa... You're not addicted... You're focused...:D

Sylvia... sorry to hear about your "mud"... Isn't it just awful when the grandkids live so far away!!!

Homemaker Marvin... did you clean up the aftermath????

We have a fine, sunny morning here in Southern Ontario... There was a light frost this morning, but it's already gone... Nothing terribly interesting going on today, just same old same old...

Everyone have a great day!!!

04-24-2003, 07:59 AM
Good Morning Everyone!!!!
Beautiful, sunny morning, thick frost on the rooftops, supposed to go up to 11C (52F) and improving as days go on.

Couldn't resist and started on the portrait of Bethany (she is soooo cute!!), so far so good but now the hair argh!!!!

Went to life drawing last night and am very happy to say that this group likes longer poses so henceforth I will take my watercolours and see if I can do it on the spot. Should really be easier than shading in with pencil. The reason I had quit going was because the group was filled with University students who all wanted gestures only.

Fookie, how wonderful that your cactus is blooming, very rewarding for all the hard work you are putting in. Nothing of any colour happening here yet. Anxiously awaiting your post of new painting, or is it already there, I headed straight for the wash this morning. Love your doggie stories!!!

Anita, hope your tummy gets better fast. I agree re visitors taking time away from painting HA!

Marvin, that looks sooo yummy!!! Sorry to read about your picture problems with eBay. I think eBay is slow now, I watch it a bit just to stay in touch with the trends. One of these days will try and sell all my piled up stuff again.

Fun2 your painting of em is looking good. Am almost glad that the weather is too cold to garden, another grace day for painting!!!

Jaytee, I find it hard using someone elses painting technique. Tried a few times and it never works out. Good luck!!

Have to run, one of my friends wants me to show her how to paint flowers. I wish I could show her a "no fail" technique, but if there is one, I don't know of it yet.

Wishing all a great day!!!!!!

Good day all. Sunny and cool here.
Have to run but had to stop by here first.
Meeting an hour away this morning and working at resale shop this aft.
I really think we need a recipe exchange here.
Hope you all have a good day.

Good Day to all:

I am running late so forgive me for not responding to each of you.

The sun is out but there is ice on all the puddles and on my mini pond. Of course, after I set it up last weekend and dug up the plants from the perennial garden, I should have expected this. I guess that happens in nature on the shorelines of rivers and ponds so hopefully they will flourish after a short freeze.

Hopefully this weekend will be warm again and I can get the lettuce and snow peas planted in the garden, cut back the raspbeery canes and furtilize the strawberries. But then again, maybe it will rain and I can paint.

See you all later and have a good day

04-24-2003, 08:38 AM
i being a good girl and trying to stay active around here. i tend to pooch out and just brouse without saying anything. being involved in an ongoing project helps end that problem i guess. i am having so much fun painting all these fabulous WCers in the portrait project. i didn't realize how much i like painting people. so glad fooks and maryann thought of it.

Uschi-i hate it when people want me to show them how i did something, cause half the time it was an accident and i just end up giving a verbal explaination.

man, everyone is either gardening or cooking around here. my dad may be a landscape architect, but our yard is nearly the worst in the neighborhood. we have 7 kids, nice landscaing isn't practical (seriousely).

see yall round

04-24-2003, 08:39 AM
Collard Greens..................

All you US gardeners............ Im having trouble tracking down Collard Greens seeds over here.. ........is it that they wont grow? or theyre classed as a weed? Or what? From my web search I have discovered what they're not........ Spring Greens as sold in Uk (usually cabbage) , or Mustard Greens... though similar. Enlightenment would be greatly appreciated :D Good job Im not an Iguana :D

04-24-2003, 09:02 AM
we are packed and ready to go....soon as we have breakfast, we are on the road

Have a great weekend....I'll probably log on from my daughters

04-24-2003, 09:06 AM
Pam, have a great trip. you are such an addict, i mean asset to the community.

04-24-2003, 09:26 AM
Good morning all! It's 6:21 Am here on the Pacific Northwest area.

I guess I will be painting more than ever now. My husband finally got a job but it has taken him to Los Angeles, California. He left out last night and hopes to get there by Friday night. :(

If all goes well we will move everything there sometime in June. He may even get to travel to Europe and that will be a plus for me.

Over all now we look forward to new adventures. that means new photos for painting references!

So today I plan on doing a one color value study. It's raining out and I now will drink some morning coffee to get motivated.

Marvin, I think it's a trend.....While my husband has been off work (over a year) he has learned to cook quite well. I will miss his cooking.

04-24-2003, 09:54 AM
First things first:

Previous Recipe Exchange (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33688)

I am not sure if that will work, but it might be fun to bring it to the top again.

Joe Majury has a number of great recipes in there.

Otherwise, things are busy again. I am still trying to get some mims framed, but have the little girls in the morning and taking them to the framing/art store is difficult because they want things (so do I). :D

Marvin, great looking food. I need some one to cook for me... My husband will build programs, but he really does not cook.

I hope everyone who is not feeling well gets better soon and that we all get a chance to paint.

Sigh, well I am off to be harassed by children.... :D

Good morning, everyone--posters AND lurkers!!! I'm happy!
My "creative pause" (slump) is over! I posted "Thread of Life" and feel re-invigorated.

My life is so placid--read "boring"--compared to you folk! I'm glad I lived a full and adventurous life when I was younger and more mobile and I'm enjoying reading about yours now. I'm so glad I found WetCanvas and all the wonderful and generous people on it!

Time to check how my "muse" is doing and see if I can paint again today.:D

Happy painting and living!

04-24-2003, 11:23 AM
I got a new mattress set!!!!

First decent night of sleep that I've had in over a month and it only cost me $1000.

It was worth it! :D I feel like I've rejoined the land of the living. Today is a cleaning day. I have a friend coming into town for a week and I don't want him having to step over the huge mess. Hubby and I are used to it, but why subject others to it?

Those who can paint, paint a little bit extra for me. :)

04-24-2003, 11:54 AM
Hi all

Just stopped cleaning house long enough to drop in.

I tried to scan & upload some pics. I think these are black & white of the hotel gallery I posted earlier this week.

OK lets see

OK looks like this one is part of the hotel where we actually have our painting group. Large picture window looking out onto town.
Notice the reflection of the buildings across the street in the glass.

I think it could use sharpening up a bit but I am just learning to us the scanner & such.

Morning Glories,

I see Al did not sign up for portrait, yet. Appears some serious arm twisting is in order... I get out the broom and drop in on him; same as I threatened on Marvin if he cropped trees on Sophia Road Shophouses. Incidentially, Marvin tell me called "shophouses", because owner lived on second floor and had business establishment on first floor. We had this here, too, when I was growing up, now it's all crappy shopping malls. PS: you only get this insider infor from Marvin after purchase is done deal. :D

Marvin, good you doing the cooking, extra treat for Adeline. I should have used your kitchen aftermath for Mother's Day painting. Might be another Mother's Day in the works. I'll have the dish on the left, please. Extra vegetables, less meat.

Sylvia, Shim get horticultural badge once he learns to STAY and not charge into screen door. I wrote in yesterday's wash about what he did to his Easter bunny present so currently I am sifting poopies to find the zipper end. I told him if that piece ends up lodged in his intestine he is going down for the count. Sigh, puppies don't understand English language like kitties do. Don't jump me--I good to him.

Char, that is what I am doing on my little "hill". A cacti garden growing wild w/rocks. I have to import the rocks and so they are smaller than I would like. I do this to delay degeneration of the little hill. I have many planted there this spring. I did not take the photo yet; from the house it looks like the little guy wilted a bit.

Me too, Uschi. I can't show and tell either. I use you for a model for drawing with brush practice, ain't looking to paint a flowfee. You paint the flowfee and I paint you painting the flowfee--that's what is in store for you.

{{Pamps}} Arrive safely. Thinking of you.

I've been more of a lurker these past days as well. Too much scurrying IRL and practicing slower painting, which is good for me. Also wet into wet. Messed up one work, but posting it soon anyway as I know at this point it is the best I can do w/the subject. Actually, I have 3 in progress, forgot about the other: it is a study for a full sheet I have in mind and I will be posting it as well...someday. I buy Photoshop Elements 2.0 on advice from Tessp, who fixed my problem w/downloading from RIL--good WC! citizen. But, haven't download it. Hope it helps w/my image protrayal.

04-24-2003, 12:40 PM
hey fooks, al did sign up, he is just having trouble uploading his photo. we do need more males though. i realize i like painting guys and now i'm stuck with all these women and our one worthy male model (hurry up with that picture al)

04-24-2003, 01:48 PM
Very quick visit, just to show you some of the photos I took on holiday. Made a little piece with the ones that came out alright :). Disposable cameras should not be trusted, lol. The silly looking person in the hat is me, on the first day before I realised it was far too hot to wear warm clothes.

04-24-2003, 01:56 PM
Beautiful photos... remind me of Queenstown, NZ ... the first and only time I've ever skied , Sarah... you look cute with the hat and shades. :)

Sorry Fookie... all food in stomach now... :D

and yes, all dirty dishes cleaned.

04-24-2003, 03:08 PM
Just to make sure you all understand, I haven't been paintng dead animals; I've been painting stuffed toy animals.:D

04-24-2003, 04:12 PM
Hi folks!

Just back from meeting Madmum and Sharon at Wigan Pier.

Here's a shot of them - both shots with me on didn't come out so well :(

It was nice to get together, but I was the only one brave enough to take some paintings along :D

I can recommend Wigan Pier, especially the Opie Museum and the Engine House at Trencherfield Mill. There you can find the largest working steam mill engine in Britain. Something for RipvanBlair to drool over. I'll post some of the other shots on the Reference Image Library.

04-24-2003, 04:20 PM
When does Ruth get back? Had noticed her absence but not the post about her going off to Wigan :). Missing her!

04-24-2003, 04:21 PM
Hi y'all... glad everybody is doing well :D
i'm just resting ...

Jaytee... Collards are good... and especially good cooked with turnip greens. I can get you both kinds of seeds. Just PM me your address. Sandy

Lyn, I think that too, every time I read about all the excitment on the board.

Fookie, you and your doggie stories crack me up:D This reminds me of many years ago when our friends sun decided to eat our Pennies we kept in a jar for playing poker. The reappeared, were washed and used again. We were all too poor to waste pennies in those days.
re portrait, I am going to paint your eyes yet, while trying to figure out how to do this it occured to me to pretend they are green marbles HA! Going over to see if you have posted the promised painting yet.

Sarah, looking soo cute!!!!

Doug and Ruth, such fun meeting internet friends!!! Ruth, had to smile, you look sooooooo British - that's a compliment, by the way!! That would be a good portrait to paint for a project, so hurry up and sign up - both of you!!!!!

Gorgeous day here, but had company all day and now am not in the mood to do anything, indoors or outdoors.

A photo of ME :crying:

Diet starts on Monday!!!!!!!!!!!

Doug, it was lovely to meet you again, and Sharon it was just as lovely to meet you for the first time :) The museums were fascinating, especially the steam engine and the classroom ;) Ask Sharon about my problems with school desks! lol

Home on Saturday evening! Manchester tomorrow day, Italian meal tomorrow night. :D

Nice to know I was missed, Sarah :) Glad you got home safely from your ski trip!

Hummm...I was just thinking 'where's that maddie' and here she is. We got on diet together, Maddie, I could mention *really massive Hungarian hips* again, but if Bethany hears this time I might get a smack.

OH, AAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL, having trouble downloading photo, are we? Need some 'tech support' with that, i.e., broom?

Bethany, LOVE your new tiny head, hair style very flattering. WHEN IS HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION?

04-24-2003, 05:35 PM
So eager to pm Sandy about green seeds, disappeared without saying

1. great pics of Sarah, Maddie and Sharon...............Maddie.... safe journey home........ see you soon ???

2. been painting Chinatown all day.......... I hit the bin, 3 washed down sink..... but still trying.... this must be progress of a sort :( Not even using chinese brushes helps :D

3. After rave reviews of her as teacher and looking at her website, have just bought a copy of Betsy Dillard Strounds book Painting from the Inside Out... from Geof here in UK. Desperate times need desperate measures ( see 2. above!!!!)

4. Fooks....LOL re Shimmi pup........ good luck with zip.... rather you than me.........Ginger just shreds basket, not cushions :D

LOL, fookie! i had a friend who used to go around saying that she was too fat. she is gorgeous and nobody but her brother thought she was fat (and we know they don't count) it irritatied me then and i think i have been permanently scared

that hairstyle is all growed out now. down to shoulders and red now. think i'll cut it again
