beautiful painting. Interesting question. Can you manipulate it in photo shop? I tend to think your on to something & variation in the dark would be good. Great painting... good luck!

Karen's suggestion is excellent. It would be a shame to ruin this painting... What a wonderful pose of the kitty!!! He looks sooo relaxed. You quilt pattern is exquisite and the shadows are great. Let us know what you decide to do with this!!!

You could also just crop it into a long horizontal, getting rid of some of the black. I love the quilt and the pose on the kitty. Nice job!

Thanks for the suggestions...will most likely leave it as is. I could lift out the black, but there is only white underneath.
Next time I will use a warm orange or yellow under then lift..
I was actually trying to learn how to use a new flatbed/film scanner (hp4570) and how to upload....
Now if I could only remember how I did it!

....Hi Brian :) Excellent rendering. The quilt is just perfect!! Aren't cats the most wonderful, unique pets? I agree also just to leave this one 'as is' and do the orange/yellow lift next time.

Great painting!

Wonderful!

Love Cat!

Cat Lover!

I would crop too, but not as deep in the black -- keep the composition in uneven thirds -- not even and static. Cat is one of the thirds. ;-)

This is an absolutely gorgeous cat, and I especially like the cropped version.
Sharon.
P.S. the quilt is brilliant too.

I love this painting... the detail in the quilt, how you captured the spirit and color of the cat. To me, the background is perfect. I like the balance between the detail and the darkness.

Thanks for your comments Alan
That,s the way it was hung.
With the price of matting and framing, I just left it as it was.
Like your work and site.
Take care,
Brian

The cat looks sooooooooooo relaxed :) nice job on the painting. I like the idea of cropping some off the top.
