I painted this today from a black and white photograph of my cousin's daughter. Since it's my first portrait I am fairly happy with the outcome, although I didn't quite get the incredible impression on Gloria's face. And the hair is not good.

Arches, 5x7, Da Vinci paints.
Comments and critiques are welcome.:)

Excellent first portrait. I like the way that you suggested the nose with not a lot of detail.

Ah, your ol' man wears army boots :D

This is wonderful work, who needs stinkin' color photo to refer, we know what we like [I don't use color either].

This is a great job. Love the eyes..."honest, mommy, I don't know how that vase got broke."

Send it out its way, mommy and little girl will love it. Congrats!

LOL... As the mother of grown children and now two little granddaughters, I was thinking along the same lines as Fookie! You have captured that adorable, sweet, innocence that only a child can manage. Her look pulls at heart strings and you should be very proud of the portrait!!!

This is incredible, and a very adorable subject. I find painting children the hardest thing (constantly trying to capture my boys on paper), and you did a wonderful job. She does have that "What, who, me?!?!?" look on her face...hehehe .. very nice!!
