View Full Version : Graphite Lion WIP

I came across this gorgeous reference image in the Wetcanvas library. I loved the way it showed the majesty of the lion, and wanted to try and capture this myself. I originally planned to do a pastel painting, which I will get around to doing later. But when I made it greyscale I loved the tones and texture and thought it would work well in graphite.
C&Cs much appreciated!!

Here is my work so far. I always forget to take pictures as I go when I get into the zone. This is about 8 hours work so far, A3.

Another few hours work and its pretty much done. I'm going to let it sit for a few days to see if any of the values need tweaking, but this is fairly well finished I think.

It stunning! I hope you can get the upload prob. resolved as I cannot wait to see the finish!
Have you tried to log out and then log back in to upload? Or maybe just a browser refresh might work?

Very good range of tones and a lovely softness to the fur around the mouth.

Love the detail in the mane and his eyes have that soulful, wise look. Great work!

Hi: Nice work. To me, it appears that the eyes are set too high up in the forehead which means that the mane does not come down far enough and the top of the head does not look large enough. Just a thought. Cheers Glen.
