I have started on a lion pastel painting and would love to share some steps.
The size is about 19" x 16". It's my first attempt on a lion and I'm very excited :)
This is where I'm at the moment with this big guy.
Hope you like him so far :)

Each update is more beautiful than the last! I love it, dont think I would every be able to get that sort of detail with my pastel pencils, how you sharpen yours?
03-31-2012, 02:45 PM
Thank you so much Lexycat! :) For sharpening the peincils I always use a cutter, where the blade segments can be broken down, when they lose their sharpness. Hope you know what I'm meaning...how did you call they in English? xD
03-31-2012, 03:45 PM
stunning!!!! glad to see someone else with a detailed drawing!
03-31-2012, 03:46 PM
The details in that line drawing are amazing by themselves but what you are creating over the top of it is mind blowing!
This is going to be so AWESOME! What type of pastel pencils are you using?
03-31-2012, 04:04 PM
Thank you Kasey and Peggy!! This makes me very happy, that you like it! :)
I work with pastel sticks form JAXELL and all the pencil work is done with the CarbOthellos from STABILO and PITT's from Faber Castell.

This is absolutely stunning . Thank you so much for showing us your wip, as we get to see exactly how you do this intricate and time consuming piece.
Incidently, roughly how much time have you spent on this so far?

Thank you Pat, Nicki, Chammi, Pam and Karen!!:)
I worked over 5 weeks on this painting, I think it takes me all about 70 hours. But it's always difficult to count this exactly...
Now he is finished and here is the complete painting. I really hope you enjoyed watching the progression and would love to hear what you think about this piece.
