View Full Version : WDE Feb 24, been painting up a storm! WIP and MI

since we got a freak snowstorm this weekend I have been holed up painting my buns off!

had a chance to tackle all those photos I have been wanting to try for a while
I have some WIP and some MI to come
this is the first lot,
at 1 HR drawn and underpainted with cobalt blue, 12x16 watercolor:
Then following at 3 HR, any thoughts of realism went out the window, I used Maimerai Blue paints for the whole thing

this is 8x8 took an hour
cropped morning walk

I used daniel smith watercolor ground on a bit of matboard to try it, and used gouache for the crop of the thistles
sprayed the BG with WC first and let it dry, total about an hour

so I had the pelican started before, made a mess, covered it with colored masa paper and built up the rocks, I had left it as an unfinished disaster, but I think I will try and paint it, this is the piece at 2 hrs- now sure what I will use to paint it with. 12x12

and I hope I don't mess this up, I am taking my time, this is the glass still life after 2 hrs- drawing and underpainting with windsor violet 12x16

this is why I like to host, I get a chance to try all those experiments I plan on all year.

there is another one I want to do as well , so do come back!!

Excellent, artastic! You gave me some ideas on how to approach some of these images. I especially like the texture on the pelican and the violet underpainting on the pear and glass still life.

Thank god for freak snow storms....LOL
I think the pelican will come together for you...it has a ton of potential.
The thistle crop is absolutely GORGEOUS!!!
The first painting is very nice too....as is the cold dog walking scene.
My fav I do believe will be the unfinished pelican.
Will be back to see the grand finale of the bird and the glass still life!!

I like the thistle best, followed by the sunflowers, walking the dog next and the pelican and pears look very promising. Lucky snow storm on a weekend yet. Great job and thanks for hosting.

Gosh Bonnie you have been busy! They are all beautiful but I love your still-life. I had a try at that as well and it wasn't an easy one to do, but you've made a wonderful job of it! I will look in again to see your completed glass still-life.

I was sure I had commented before but I guess not. The site has been freezing up on me all week and I have had to leave in the middle of things so i guess thats what happened here.
That pelican turned out beautifully, those rocks are very convincing and the pelican is perfect. Your blue monotone is lovely, and the crockery is beautiful. I will look forward to seeing your completed glassware, the doily looks spectacular
