View Full Version : WDE feb 24 Pelican WIP

I figured I might be able to squeeze enough time out of my weekend to work on the pelican.
It is still a work in progress and this is about the two hour stage. I'm working with oil pastels on an 8 by 10 inch canvas panel. The oil pastels are a brand new set of Senneliers which arrived yesterday, just in time for this project.:D
I hope to be able to work on it some more this evening.
Suggestions for improvement welcome.

It's bedtime, and I think this is my final version. I'll look at it with fresh eyes tomorrow.
I felt all that blue green required some red, hence the reddish rock.

Lovely painting of a very popular subject this week and its in OP's which scores extra points in my book.

Agree the red rock rocks. Don't you love the Senn's? They are so much like butter after other oil pastels. Also like their soft pastels for the same reason.

You did very well Hal:clap:

Thank you Christine and Paula.
For quite awhile I've just been using Erengis and Gray pas Specialists. I had forgotten how soft and how much easier the Senns are to spread around on canvas. The Erengis and Gray Pas required a lot of elbow grease to work into the canvas. In comparison the Senns were pure pleasure. Of course the Senns are considerably more expensive.
Thank you Robert, you snuck in there. We were typing at the same time.

I took a better photo in daylight today.. My last photo was under artifical light and the focus wasn't very sharp.
Also based on a tip from another artist, I think I have my white balance better adjusted.

Bonnie, EP, thank you.
Thank you Grannygrump. I'm delighted to have you look in.
Depending on your medium there are many groups who share challenges and talk forums pertaining to a specific medium. The WDE is for any medium and repeats weekly. Once you've made four or five postings you'll be able to post a photo. I'm honored that your first post was to my painting.
I'm a retired Air Force Pilot, that's the reason for the airplanes.
Very cute, love your palette Hal.
