This is 12 x 18 including a one inch border. It's on Strathmore 140lb cp paper.

I did this from a photo reference I took in 2000 while on a trip through the Washington Cascade Pass.

Char, I have a lot of time on my hands. This one did not take long at all.

Most of the time I stare at the photo a long time (long, long time) thinking about what colors I want to use and how I want to relay the feeling.

Sometimes I do a quick sketch in my sketch book and then paint. Other times like for this one I draw a few lines on the watercolor paper and go from there.

I do exactly the same thing.

Lovely painting, filled with life and energy. One little nit - that horizontal white in the middle of the cliffs, I'd break that up a bid, looks as if a mountain goat is about to leap right off the cliff.

Thanks again. Ushi that's supposed to be snow. Before I added some guoache it looked like a smiley face. It could look that way also because I was holding the camera and the photo came out tilted.

Hi Sylvielu,

This has such a wonderful sense of a warm, sunlit day high on a trail in the mountains.

Very nice composition with the diagonals and strong vertical lines. Vibrant painting.
