Sorry for the tease, I mean considering I don't have any paint down yet, but just finished this sketch from a very grainy reference I found on line. But will be working on this most of the day, with stages posted... hope this helps explain what I do, not sure I can break it all down as I work pretty fast as a force of habit :D... but here goes... here is the photo and sketch side by side, and then a bad scan of the sketch...

Okay here's a scan from my crappy scanner... first stage about 15 minutes of fooling around... lol... ack where did this crowd come from?

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/17-Apr-2003/3278-goy_1.jpg

And here are 3 versions with 20 minutes more work, 2 breaks of blow drying the layers dry and then adding more washes and wet on wet... thank god for digital cameras and photoshop... I contrasted this as close to the original as I could...

I want more

and I want to understand:

You do so much more of a drawing than we expect with watercolor

How do you decide on those "lines" of color

it's really stunning

Mal just asked me if this was fun to paint, I said, "yeah but weird since I got the Partridge Family playing..." anyhoo, here's the full 3 stages to see a side by side... ;)

Crystal Owl: hey cut that out... i don't call you in the morning :D

Borum: Well Goyathlay means "one who yawns" , course people in Arizona know him better as Geronimo! Basically I chose him cause I saw a great photo of when he was older, and he still had these great piercing eyes, not bad for some dirt farmer/revolutionary... ;)

Uschi & Little Old Lady: Glad you like it, hope "fookie" does too?

Yorky: sorry mate, on yank hours here :D

diane555: Final steps?! yeah no rush :p

fun2cook: ok... ok... ok...

CharM: Can't believe how fast this forum moves... I need a seatbelt...

pampe: I am taking a small break before lunch, and will try an do a very small eye demo for you with what I think yer asking me... hope it helps... okay enough stalling...

Here is day 2, with 2 stages and 2 close ups, fixed the chin on the last one, and am dangerously close to overworking this...

How like you, Bobby.... To get off to such an exciting start... then leave us all in a group waiting to see your next stage!!! This is wonderful... seems a departure from what I usually see in your works... When do we get to see the latest version?

WooHoooo! Thank you Uschi for letting me know the feature started w/o me...
I would have been in this studio immediately had I known this was Geranimo... Move over Chooks and Em, if one is being chastised so shall we all... Pamps, drippy things [snort]...We tell you about it after class...

Wow! Never know what is behind a  mask!
This is beautiful work. Like oil in watercolor. I am fascinated by such detailed WIP. How did digi interest evolve?

This is looking wonderful Bobby! Gonna work on it some more this morning after that beeeautful sun comes out? ;) I know you normally work quickly so it will be interesting to see how this one finishes after you stopped so many times! Love the colors and texture you've achieved as always.
