This is one I have been working on. Not sure what I need to do next. Does it need more flowers, more twigs, leaves added? Any suggestions would be appreciated. The background is a blue wash and yellow. Does not show well on scan. Thanks for your help. Jan

lovely piece, nice composition and color

I think you may need to increase the value differences to make it really stand out:

You've got a great painting so far. IMHO I would brighten up that bird a bit. He is so beautiful I'd want to make it stand out more.

Nice painting Jan, I'd definitely add more color, darker on the bird and some of the flowers.

Jan, my laptop screen does not always provide the best view... I autobalanced your picture and it seemed that you did have some dark values... Is this closer to your real life? If not, ignore me totally...

Beautiful painting.

I think it depends on what you are trying to capture. I would agree that the flowers need a bit more contrast and the bird a bit brighter but it is really beautiful as it. Again, depends on what you want.

Nice job. If the original looks like CM's scan no further darks required. If not... darks against light source always seems to help.
