I always get lost going 'round and 'round on roses. I keep trying though!
This is WDE painting #3 on an 8 X 10" canvas (previous ones from 2008 and 2009 :smug: ) In this case I don't see where 3 times is a charm.
First session - New Bg over old painting and start of the roses - maybe 45 minutes?

Then another 1/2 hour or so this morning.

Kind of empty looking around them but it was hard to sort out some of the photo - I might have to use my imagination.

Lovely colors on your painting. Like the simplicity of it and the background blue with the soft yellows.

Roses drive me nuts to paint; I get all fussy and hate the result. These are not fussy at all and I like them a lot.

Lovely roses - great form! Maybe a few darks in the petal shadows?

Nice highlights - I agree with Ros - just a few darks would help but your roses have lovely form.

I can draw them but can't think of the last time I tortured myself by trying to paint roses....so my hats off to you for painting them and not getting dizzy from going around and around and around....LOL

Thank you all - have worked on them some more but no photo yet - maybe Wednesday night. Iwas encouraged that my husband actually said he liked them! Usually he will not offer a comment unless it's about perspective. :)

Hi Barbara,
Yur husband has a reason to like the roses. They're beautiful! You successfully painted the dainty petals and the dizzying details in the areas where the petals are supposed to meet. The dark background made the flowers pop up!

Joel, I'm afraid I've gone too far!
It is just as satisfying to paint that way though.
I have the urge to put ferns with the roses.
Will keep going even though I think this looks worse!
