Thank You, Robert :)))
Just as this loaded I had to get up and let the dog out.
As I approached the computer again ... wow!! Where did that hippo photo come from? I didn't remember both the ref and painting being posted.
The sun is shining straight into his huge open mouth, the water just comes alive rolling and moving. Thank you for posting this. You've made a lovely painting out of a subject not so pretty (look at his teeth!).

Good work, and an interesting choice of subject.

this is my second painting of an animal. I usually do landscapes and still life :)
Our art club has a collaboration with a photography club. I ended up with the photographer who turned out to be a tour guide to Africa! She showed to me a zillion of wonderful photos of lions, leopards, zebras, rhinoceros, hippos, etc., etc... I loved them but ... I never painted an animal in my life! What to do?!
So... I decided to jump to it... I choose a few photos: leopard, hippo, cheetah and zebra :)
So far I did Leopard and hippo ;)
This is a photo but already cut in photo shop by me prior to painting:o :cat: . It had more hippos in it but I just wanted this "handsome" guy:lol: (or a girl?)
The photographer name : Patricia Wilkie
