Thanks for all the fine choices this week, Joel! :)
I believe this is a Russian Wolfhound. I chose to paint it because the coat is fascinating with all that flowing fur. I had fun laying in the impasto strokes selectively.
This is oil on a 5x7 canvas panel.
C&C welcome. Thanks for looking and commenting!
Done at less than 2 hrs.

Wow! A great art work in less than an hour! Yes the fur of this is really amazing. I saw him walking around the old town of Avenches in Switzerland. He/she seems aware of the attention he/she gets and kept showing off. This particular shot was taken at the old Roman ampitheater where the dog went around/up and down the steps.
I love how you captured his fur and that regal stance he/she had about him/her. Whew, not really sure if it's a boy or girl. But with that long hair, maybe be a girl. ;)
Thanks Dean for participating!

Ha, men have long hair too and I am very much a woman with short hair. Dogs don't care. Lovely, elegant dog. Great brush strokes.

Great impasto work! You can practically feel that fur swinging. Hmm, I thought Afghan when I first saw her, but some of those hounds can really look alike.

Jaime and Barbara....You are both right! It is an Afghan Hound! An artist first told me about it on my blog so I Googled it...and there it was!
Thanks for all the great input! :)

Very classy indeed - I love the way you choose the right background colour and repeat those colours into the dog. Your paintings are always special.
