Loved the market, so many arms and legs :)

02-18-2012, 10:07 AM
Oh no! I'm out of town and browsing only thru my cell phone. I was wondering why no one was conteibuting at all! I will upload the others tomorrow morning when i get back home. So sorry about this.

02-18-2012, 10:23 AM
I'm Curious. Was there a challenge?

02-18-2012, 11:07 AM
Yes, I believe the challenge was: Photos are about excluding the things you dont want, drawing, painting, etc is about including only what you want. So take the pics and include on the things or thing you want from ref. -- At least thats how I remember it.:)

Hi gang,

I happen to have the images thread still open from yesterday. Here are the images:

1. The northern most province of the Philippines is Batanes. HEre is their light house courtesy of my friend, Irah.

2. The Philippines was a Spanish colony for over 300 years until the end of the 19th century when the Americans took over. Their biggest influence is Catholicism. You will find old churches like this all over the country. This one is Paete Church in Laguna.

3. Fort Santiago - right in the hear of the old city Manila. Courtesy of my friend Irah.

4. Here is a sunset scene taken from Manila Bay

5. Graceful dancers depicting the native Igorots of the north. Of course these are modern belles dancing for tourists at a local hotel :D

02-18-2012, 11:32 AM
6. Paete (church above) is famous for its wood carvings. Here is a Paete carver at work.

7. A local market scene. Not a very good photo but I thought the busy scene is something that some might find worth painting

8. A local fruit stall.

9. A couple of dogs. First a hairy and rich-looking one from Switzerland

10. A local beach dog of the mongrel kind :D :D :D

02-18-2012, 11:35 AM
11. Ooops I missed posting this one at the landscape portion above. A beautiful beach sunset courtesy of my photographer friend Bobby Wong.

12. This is Taal Lake. In the horizon you can see Taal Volvano - an active volcano said to be the smallest one. During this trip, we crossed the lake and hiked up the volcano.

13. Not far from the boats above is this quaint house with a nice driveway

14. Some flowers. Here is a cattleya (a kind of native orchid) from my mother-in-law's garden (although this shot was taken indoor )

15. A colorful cabbage I spotted at the mall the other day. I don't think this is for eating - it's more for display.

02-18-2012, 11:36 AM
16. Here's a beautiful pot orchids I saw at the mall.

Hey it's the weekend after Valentine's. Hope you had a good one! Here are my three roses for all of you

Here's the challenge: They say that the main difference between photography and painting is this: you take photos and try to focus on the one subject that you want to capture - eliminating everything else. On the other hand, one paints a blank canvas with the power to include only what one wants to paint. The challenge is for you to use the power of painting and focus on only one aspect of the photograph and eliminate other parts.

Happy painting!

Oh for goodness sake - every time the do maintenance this happens - why dont' they just leave it alone.!!!!

I've been busy all afternoon and still not even been able to start the WDE.

I even stayed up late last night to print them off so I could get a start today as I was a day late already!

I came here now to check the places so I could name them.

He said he got up at 6am to post them as he was aware of time zones - to be honest I do them before I go to bed Thursday rather than get up early I dont' do mornings  .

Poor Joel!!!!

i wondered why i didn't have it highlighted in my WC subscriptions.

yes surob the Weekend Drawing Event....

 Eyepaint - what a hero coming to our rescue

02-18-2012, 12:39 PM
Yes Susan. The challenge was to focus onone aspect of the photo and eliminate distractions. Thanks!

(stamps feet and has a small tantrum)
So sorry, Joel. No need for you to apologize!
I wonder why it always seems to happen on the weekend, when there are no paid staff around to deal with it.
Good save, Eeps!

02-18-2012, 04:42 PM

Good save, Eeps!

I am thinking they set up some kind of time-consunming back up on 'auto run' then all go home to enjoy the weekend. They forget that like them many work 9-5 during the week and paint evenings and weekends and that weekends are the busiest time for artists and that we have challenges - but what do hey care - they are just techies.!

Please can you get up a guide - protest march to get them to STOP DOING THIS AT WEEKENDS!!!!

02-18-2012, 05:36 PM
All's well that ends well. I hope you guys could still make good use of what's left of the weekend!

Thank you everyone for "reconstructing" the thread - - - not the least to EP -- you are all such angels!!!
