THIS is what a patrick should look like. On a nice rust board.
MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
So.... does anyone else think Van Gogh?

I'm thinking dj. Extremely good pastel. Not too complex and not to simple. great shading and use of the pastel; you seem to have mastered them.
Van Gogh at first sight to me.
This is briliant. Love the restrained colour. Mood, character. A masterpiece......

compelling study DJ.........like to look at this one for a while, I think. I find myself thinking that James is in a line up......his stare kinda neutral...........
VG ? who started that rumour? :D

Van Gogh .. No .. I wouldn't think Vincent without the question being asked and even then I think not .. just a distant relationship with the short directional stroke application. The portrait as usual is spectular.

wow DJ, ...i actually thought Zorn or Sargeant. i didnt realise it was pastel.
the reason i think my brain went there was the lively and direct effect you have here [though of darker palette].
..also, the really solid perfection/ formation of the head 3D-wise.
very very well done. -eric.

I don't think it looks like Van Gogh at all!! Didn't he have dark hair??? *GRIN*
I don't know which I like the best...your pastels or oils! They both are equally wonderful to view. I love the highlights on his mustache and beard thingy.

Hi DJ - Wow, one of my favs of yours so far. I also thought this was an oil at first. Great job. The shirt has almost a Cubist feel to it. You really captured his expression. You're an inspiration to us all - I think I'm gonna start a portrait\figure painting now!

This is a little restrained for you dj. All the more surprising because of the intense reds in his face. I agree with andy about looking like he's in a line up. This looks like one angry dude!

Wow! Vincent who? My favorite parts are the shadow play on the face and the neck where it meets the t-shirt, whew!
