Title: Portrait of Luc
Year Created: 2003
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!
Potrait of my youngest son Luc.
MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
Does the face look finished? I am not sure how to do the hair yet but will be working on it in the morning. How does the rest of the painting look?
All comments, help, etc. welcome and appreciated.

I love the blue eyes and how they complement the overalls (or vice versa). The hair IMO is cool.
Maybe add some creases in the sleeves for an added dimensional look.

I like how the background and subject are unified by brush work and texture. It has a nice stylized feel, but a definate personality.
I think the background color was a great choice, not as dark as the photo but deeper and receeding.
The only thing about the first picture was that I DEFINATELY saw YOUR eyes in the painting. These are less unsettled and more appropriate to a child, but the first one, had your deep baby blues and I found it startling!
I love the stripes. They remind me of all sorts of Leave It to Beaver innocence.
I am really happy you did not start your military series yet!
Do we not have another little one coming up as your next piece... have the whole family on the wall?!

repetition of eyes, in overall snaps
repetition of stripes (alternating bands of color)natural and irregular in the hair
two ears two overall straps etc.
incredibly balanced yet totally natural and assymetric.
This is a lovely piece.
the way color shifts along the length of a thing is very good. very observant.

Luc should be proud. He has a look of concern in his eyes. Glad you're still painting. Like this a lot.

Thanks everyone. I guess I will call it finished and sign it.
I am going to start working on a new painting today. I am going with the acrylics again and using the posterize idea from DJ.

I just agree with what Jerry says.......his words nailed it's appeal, for me.

nice job on this darling son of yours...:)
what colors did you use for your skin tones?
04-12-2003, 12:51 PM
Cathleen, I used cadmium yellow, cadmium red light, white, burnt sienna and thio violet for the skin tones. But I kept covering up a lot and going back over things so most of the colors arent present anymore.

Alotta love and what a cutie...sweet. nice work
Well done, Shawn, he is lovely.
The background works well, and I like the striped shirt. Gives him that 'kids' character.
