Lol, not my usual subject, but this was a commissioned piece. I do believe, however, that this was the first dog portrait I've ever done. And a lovely first time subject, if I do say so myself. ;) Hope you all enjoy! This is 10" X 8" graphite on smooth bristol.

Thank so much guys! I truly appreciate your feedback. :D

Bob: I looked at the fur as a bunch of lines and shapes (which is essentially what it is). I kind of broke it down by sections as well and focused on one area at a time so I didn't overwhelm myself. ;)

Absolutely stunning!! The fur is outstanding, as everyone has mentioned.
I also have a spaniel (cocker) and you nailed The Spaniel Look perfectly :)

This is a lovely drawing. The fur looks so glossy.

Thanks a lot, everyone! Nadya, it's always good to hear from other owners of similar breeds--thank you! I'm glad I was able to capture that look. :)

Such a cutie, lovely work!

I love it! As a former pet groomer, the coat and the lay of it and the swirl marks and the feathers are all so genuine! As a former English Springer Spaniel owner I love it even more! :) Toe-hair and all. I like that the subject was a little unkempt rather than fully groomed (ears shaved one-third, toes prim and proper) as that contributed to the all over character.

Has anyone here been tempted to name their springer spaniel Jerry?

Anywhoo. I love this--that dog is relaxed and comfortable looking and beautifully rendered.

Paige, Jess, Jay, Chammi, and Sharon--thank you all! I wasn't sure how this piece would be taken, since it's rather simple, but I'm very encouraged with all your compliments. :)

Misted-Dream I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you, this piece is anything but simple! It's beautiful and well rendered!
