Hey all.

I've been on the newsletter end of WetCanvas for a loooong time. I've clicked through the links to enjoy all the tidbits that you guys have but I have been kind of out of the creation mode. I'm employed full-time and have a 20 month old toddler which limits my time to create.

I am inspired maybe once a year (!) and am creating a drawing (painting? I never know what to call oil pastels) to donate to First Coast No More Homeless Pets upcoming fundraiser (donate the original art and the proceeds from a silent auction go to the charity). I live in Jacksonville, FL.

I can't say I have a specific medium. I started younger in pencil, then finally got a little more comfortable with color so then it was colored pencil. Then I had an oil pastel phase for years (intermixed with charcoals). I had a long dry run and decided to give watercolors a shot. I was happy with them and started being inspired all over again. I found a lack of creativity got me into photography (so I can paint my photos, lol). I have been sticking with watercolor for a while now and mingle that with pen/ink sometimes. I tend to do a lot of animals (I have yet to do a single landscape, backgrounds are a struggle for me) and I have a love for old cars, which I've also attempted to capture in canvas.

My most recent work is actually oil pastel. I noted a lot of descriptive notes when people post what they use as far as brand, etc... but most of what I own is student grade and is probably close to 15-20 years old. A lot of labels peeled off so not even sure what brands I have anymore. :) I'm going to try to post (after reading the "how to post images" thread, of course) my WIP in oil pastels and see if I can get some help with a part I'm struggling with.

I look forward to actually joining the community I have been siphoning information from for years!

Hi Jesse,

You seem very enthusiastic.

As for what type of medium you work in; drawing or painting -it is what you feel you do. It depends on how you work your pastels. If you use them in a drawing-like manner, then its a drawing. If you feel you have used them as you would a painting, then its a painting. They are classed as a drawing medium. I refer to them as a drawing. Others refer to them as a painting.
It is like the difference between saying Tomarto said with an "r" or Tomayto said with a "y"

Look forward to seeing your work
