Title: "red peony"
Year Created: 2003
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!
Tried to do a softer light approach here - almost diffused - as opposed to the harder edges and shadows in my earlier flowers.
MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:

I think you have been very successful. Beautiful image!

Absolutely.............! Beautifully soft....delicate. Great handling.
Is this wet in wet ? And were you using the concentrated liquid formula acrylics or the heavy body ?

Georgeous. Excellent detail in the flower.

How did you make it look so misty? I thought it was a photograph, really. Please share the secret :)

Thank you all for commenting. Your feedback is appreciated as always.
I use standard acrylics, usually just the generic Art Store brand. (Starving artist here, ya know?) I do use Winsor & Newton Galeria Flow Formula Acrylic as well (because someone gave me a supply), but I usually mix them with the heavier body.
As for the misty effect - it's basically a dry-brush technique. I use a 1" wide gesso brush well worn down to about half it's original length. With the brush very dry, I pick up a small amount of the same color used for the petal highlights. Next, I drag the brush across a spare canvas or board to remove most of the paint. Beginning in the middle of the petal, I very lightly and quickly drag the brush past the edge of the petal. The texture of the canvas is just enough to pick up the light residue of paint left on the brush and create the effect.

purely elemental, almost too bright even, you
spoiled it for me when you revealed "waterboy",
now I just can't get so excited about these
blooms, that I know you paint figures too.

Thanks, Fagan. Let me know how it works for you.
And thanks to you, Ceu and Alyona. Appreciate it.
LOL, Jerry. Were it not a commission, I probably wouldn't have done this. ("Bright," he said, "I want it really bright.") More figures to come. Thanks for looking and commenting.
