View Full Version : Two in Tow (Moose)

This is a little (6"x8") oil study I did the other day...thinking of turning it into a somewhat larger piece since I like the way the colors/lighting work together. The subject is a mama moose with twins walking off into the distance at Teton National Park in Wyoming, USA. I was fortunate enough to be able to view this moose family from a safe distance for a total of about 90 minutes that morning - pretty special and something I don't get to witness every day.
Thanks for looking!
C&C as always are welcome...

Very nice painting. The colors sort of pop out at you a bit.

Thanks Kanielle - yes, the looser style is not as common on this forum :) It's an outgrowth of my plein air painting days...
Thanks Sarah and Lola!
Janet - thank you :)
Thanks vanity87...yes, I'm more of a colorist than a tonalist. My brain doesn't seem to register grays as easily as colors ;)

Very nice little study! I like the colour and the lighting, too. I think it would make for a great larger work. Nice to be able to witness that. Last summer as I cycled home from work, I stopped to watch a whitetail doe and her two fawns grazing about 10 feet away from me for about 15 minutes. They kept looking at me once in a while. Such a magic moment.

Thank you Shalese! I love painting morning lighting :)
Thanks Frank! I think we all need to experience more magic moments like yours...
Thank you Chammi!

Beautiful lighting and color!

Do it I think it would be great larger. You might add some more space on the right giving them some field to walk in to, Maybe some small quail lifting off in the distance to pull you visually into the field and balance the group of moose. just an idea?

Thanks for the suggestions mburrell! I'll likely do a larger piece at some point and I'll keep your suggestions in mind :)
