I like your style... so full of texture.

Oh wooooooooooooooow the textures really are superb. I love how REAL and dishevelled and slightly grumpy and regal he is. He looks like he has seen and experienced so much. SO much personality to read in this painting! I could stare at it deciphering each strand of fur for hours! What an effort - worthy of the King of the Animals for sure :D

Majestic (and slightly grumpy as stated above) are for sure. I love how the mane turned out.

absolutely breathtaking wow

Seeing the detail in this gives me a kick up my backside for usually being lazy and hoping detail will just happen on its own. Your detail work is just out of this world

Hi All
Thanks for your amazing comments, and to answer your questions, most of my detail is done with a size 0 to 000 brush dependending on the size of the painting, the underlayers are normally done with a size 4 brush to do rough undercoats. I then layer, and layer and layer hairs and include plenty of colour glazes. Total time for a painting is a bout 50 - 70 hours

Best Regards

This is so encouraging. The past year has been rather tough for me energy wise, so finding the discipline to get a painting out has been hard. Your feedback means alot.

These paintings are very time consuming, so approx 50hrs+. I am a perfectionist so really push the limits of my patience.

Thanks so much for your comments!

It makes me sad, it's that good! The sadness and life's living show in his eyes, the scars from battles past, the disheveled mane, the fur beginning to lose it's luster on his face, he's done a lot of living--much of it hard and it reflects in your superb work. For a painting, I love it, you've done a super job, for him, I'm sad. You've depicted him very, very well.

I wish I had your patience. The image is stunning. The hairs are so detailed it is daunting to think what went into it! Each looks so deliberately placed. Absolutely magnificent.

I am so glad everyone is picking up on the emotive side of this piece. It is all good and well to paint beautiful wildlife, but what is seldom communicated is the life that animal leads and what he/she has gone through and accomplished. The art of emotive wildlife painting is something which captures beyond the beauty and gives insight into another beings world, life and feelings.

thanks again
