[ Home: Virtual Museum: Curator's Office: Welcome from Iian Neil ]

A more "formal" welcome letter will be forthcoming, but for now, a simple introduction will have to suffice!

Iian Neill, Australian, born 1978. Iian Neill has had in interest in drawing since he was thirteen, and enrolled in art classes at his local high school. However, it was not until 1994 that he became acquainted with reproductions of works by the Old Masters, and began executing sketches of their work. In 1996 he attended the Fine Arts course at the University of Tasmania, but finding that institution governed by Post-Modernist philosophies to the exclusion of an adequate artistic education, he decided to move to English and Philosophy, and then Information Technology. Iian Neill has not exhibited at this date, and continues to teach himself how to draw, paint and sculpt to the best of his abilities.

Iian's interests include music of the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods, and the architecture of the ancient Greeks and Egyptians, as well as Islamic mosques. If he is successful in acquiring a workable technique, he plans to execute paintings in a realistic style based on broadly "Sybmolist" themes. He firmly believes that great art must have a spiritual content - but not necessarily a religious one - if it is to be called "eternal".
