From the artist

I am a beginner in arts. I have been studying art for 2 years. I feel that I have a special inclination to paint portraits. So I need to know if I should carry on or not.

Size: 9 x 12"

There is no way on earth you should stop drawing or painting! You are a natural and you have done an outstanding job for a beginner. I am very pleased with your portrait. I don't say this lightly. There is very little to improve.

One thing that makes this portrait look good is that you found areas where you added some blue hues into the shadow planes . Since skin is in the warm color scheme, it is important to have this contrast for relief. Also cool colors placed next to warm colors make the warm color even feel warmer.

The image to the left is an electronically enhanced copy, with the suggestions of the critiquers incorporated directly into the image.

Specific comments are below.

My modifications:

All I did was crop it a bit so the head wouldn't be in the center of the picture plane.

I also cleaned out the spot between the eye brows and the chin.

Additional comments:

Please, by all means carry on, and even more intensely. Keep in touch! I would love to see more of your work.
