Roche Soft Pastels:
Once used by artists such as the great Degas himself, Roche pastels are still being made by the same family, one stick at a time.

Roche was the very first commercially available pastels to ever be offered to the public. The company itself began back in 1720.

Reviewer's Comments

I only have 34 but they are special. Including the price. My shades are all portrait so my review is based on that. These blend almost like no other, so if you are a "blender" you will love these. They have a small bit of pumice and are pigment loaded. They are very, very fine and a little goes a long way.

You can only get them in one place in the US, so far, and it's even more challenging getting into the shop in Paris. It's only open most Thursday afternoons. If price is not an issue, get them all, lol. A complete inventory is somewhere between $6,000-$9,000 US. If you are a portrait artist you may want to try a few. If budget is in your vocabulary then run.....
