| The art of lampworking has been growing in the USA over the past 20 years. The first class was offered in 1983 at the Pilchuck School of Glass by Pavel and Josef Molnar. The first new information on lampworkers was published in by Edward Carberry's called Glassblowing in 1977. Before 1968 creative glassblowing covered both scientific and ornamental glassworking. Collectors in the USA also have grow dramatically over the years. Some beads are coveted by these collectores due to the limited number made. There has always been a strong interest in Europe for glass work. The techniques and skills were jealously guarded by the familes of glassworkers. We are fortunate that our society is open to sharing and learning for the most part by people working in this field of art.
In the United States we have large groups of collectors always on the lookout for a person who has skills above that of other glassworkers. Once they find one of these artist they will keep them very busy, constantly pushing the artist to create something new or different. This challenges the artist to experiment, and the suggestions of customers constantly brings ideas to mind that had not been considered previously. |

| Laura Brito | |
| Laura Brito began her career in art at a young age. She went from drawing to painting in oils by the age nine, and won a major art contest, in the Orient where she lived, when she was fifteen. Painting was not her only medium. Photography became a passion that led to a semi-professional career in that field. The rights to thousands of her photographs have been sold over the years. Though she still finds a use for her camera her interest in hot glass opened a new career for her seven years ago. She now sells her work through her website. Her knowledge in the hot glass medium has grown over time while working in the medium, and she is happy to share information. Anyone interested in hot glasswork can find further information on Laura's website as well as the Glass Art Forum at WetCanvas! | |
