"How to Search the Site - For Product Reviews!"

Author: Axl, Contributing Editor

WetCanvas! is one of the largest art-related message boards on the internet, and is growing every day! With thousands of members, millions of posts, and new information popping up every single day, our database of information just keeps getting larger and larger. This means that there is more information out there for you to check out, but also means that it may be harder to find the exact information you're looking for.

This article is going to discuss how to search the site for Product Reviews successfully to help improve your chances of finding what you need.

How to search for Product Reviews

The Search Toolbars
You've probably already noticed the toolbar along the top of the site. It searches four main areas of the website: the discussion forums, the articles, the product review system, and images in the reference image library. Basically all this requires you to do is put in keyword(s) related to what you are looking for, select the area you want to search, and then click the go button to retrieve your results.

When using this for Product Reviews, you can simply put in a few keywords, select the Reviews option, and click go. The site will turn up a list of reviews relevant to your keywords, and you may get what you are looking for. However, for the best control over searching, it's best to use the Review System's own search control panel.

Using the Review System's Search Function
On the top left-hand corner of the Review System page is an area that can help you browse the reviews. Insert your keywords in the Find category. Choosing the Normal mode will simply retrieve any reviews related to your keywords. However, choosing the Advanced mode allows you to alter your search using a variety of symbols such as + and -. The definition of these symbols are explained here: ?.
Selecting All keywords means that all your specified keywords will be included in your search, while clicking Any means that any of your words will be included in the results. The All option will return any result including all your search words, but you may want to use the Any option for a wider variety of results.

Lastly, under Look In, you can choose the type of reviews for the search:
  • Items will include anything in the item's name, (such as paint, easels, pencils, etc).
  • Vendors will include the vendor of the product (such as Daniel Smith, 3M Company, Dick Blick, etc).
  • Description includes anything in the description of a product (such as Big, Outdoors, Black, etc).

To initiate your search, click the pair of binoculars icon.

Finding Reviews by Members
Towards the bottom of the Product Review page is another search option. This one allows you to search for reviews by a particular member. Put in the username, and click the binoculars to initiate your search.
