| The image here is too large for our needs, and hence needs to be resized. At the top of the image window, click on the Image menu, and select Image Size. |
| On the left we have the Image Size dialog. If you leave the ratio locked (the chain to the right of the numbers), GIMP will automatically calculate the width or the height for you given one of the values.
In the height field, enter 60. Then press Scale. The image on the right shows the result of the resize. |
| Going back to our blank image, it's time to create a separate layer on which to place a copy of the resized image. At the bottom left corner of the layers window, click on the blank sheet icon.
In the options dialog that follows, give your new layer a name - handy when working with several images and you can't always remember which layer contains what - and double check to ensure the fill type is set to transparent. (This is important later when you repeat the steps for the other images -- if not set as such, the layers on top will be filled with some colour and will obscure the images beneath it entirely.) Click OK. |
