Stage 5.

Painting the body is quite tricky. To get it realistic you MUST study the fur closely in your reference images, make sure that the fur closest to you is painted OVER the fur further away. So work from the back forwards, you can then go in and touch areas up later as I am here.
Stage 6.

With the whole canvas covered I can then go back over everything, I'm now constantly searching for much more accurate colours and I will keep adding more layers until I get to a stage where I feel I can't do any more. This could be after just adding a 2nd layer but in this painting it was more like another 5!
The final painting has a very different look to the previous stage, and for me I can only achieve the look by painting in layers. It is a real searching technique I use, a constant adjustment of colours and tones until I finally feel I can do no more. Don't think that I am ever satisfied with a painting though, as after just a few days the novelty of the new painting has worn off and I start to see areas for improvement. I don't rework the painting though.... I now see that painting as the best I could do at that time, and from the lessons learnt doing it I have now reached a new level. I am always eager to start a new painting then and once again test my boundaries................... I have lots more detailed demos on my instruction site, plus a detailed CD - www.jasonmorgan.co.uk
