Step Seven:

Glue foam to the lid to fit down and cushion the pastels and hold them in place. You will need to leave a gap along the edges where the magnet or Velcro is located.
Tips for Customization:

The inside of the box can now be customized in any way that will make it work best for your needs.

Some of the things you might consider doing are:
  • Use the foam inserts that came with your pastels to create a nicely padded interior with custom slots for the pastels. You should glue them in place so they won’t slide around.

  • Some pastel sets come with plastic inserts (for example: NuPastels have plastic inserts in the box that would work nicely for holding your hard pastel pieces and keeping them separate from your softer sticks)

  • Cut some lengths of square dowel to mount lengthwise in the box to create sections. This could help you keep your colours separate and can also keep them from shifting too badly as you travel

  • Create a pocket on top of one of the lids to hold paper
One last thing...

Fill the box with pastels and fit the lid down on top of the pastels. Now both you and your pastels are ready to go wherever your travels might take you!
