Now I would like to show you a slightly different way to render the fur on Vinni-Van....our WetCanvas! Mascot. In this demonstration, I will concentrate just on his head. I always use this method with a cat's head because I find it easier to get the details in the face. A good tip... especially when drawing cats' faces... is to make a greyscale copy of your photo. This will really help you see the patterns in the fur and the tonal differences. | ![]() |
| I start the drawing in exactly the same way as the Squirrel. Sketching or tracing the basic shape and drawing the eyes and nose.
After applying masking fluid to the whiskers, I ink in the fur on the nose. As I go, I render the markings much darker and initially leave the lighter areas white. This does help when building up the pattern of markings on the cat's face. When all the darker areas have been inked in, I go back to do other layers of strokes to build tone and density, and of course, the areas you left white will always be lighter than the markings. |
