| How to post your art is an article in itself (and you’ll find one in the New User forum!), but deciding where to post your work, whether it contains images or not, can be just as daunting because there are so many forums. Here’s a guide to the forums available at WetCanvas! that we hope will help you make a decision. |
| Finding the Forums!
Forums are clustered under a number of headings. You can find a listing of them under the Content Areas heading in the top task bar on most WetCanvas! pages. If you just roll your cursor over the heading or click the down-arrow next to those words, you’ll get a pull-down menu display that looks like this: |
![]() |
| Click Discussion Forums from the pull-down menu. That will take you to a very long page that lists every forum at WetCanvas, grouped by type. The first grouping is called The Town Center. Under this grouping are a number of general forums that cut across all media and subject matters. You can read the descriptions of what kind of subject matter is covered in the forums yourself, but a few are worth noting, especially for new users of the site.
One is the proverbial “general” forum for non-art-related posts called the Café Guerbois, after the Montmartre Café where the Paris Impressionists used to wile away the evenings sipping absinthe. There’s also a Welcome Forum, where all new users should head to introduce themselves so we can welcome you to the site! In the Town Center forums, you can also get help with WC! web-hosting and there’s a forum for posting technical questions if you’re having problems with the site. Interested in getting together with other WetCanvas! members around the world? We’ve got a forum for that, too, called the WetCanvas! Events, where you’ll find regular “paint-outs” and other get-togethers – don’t forget you can organize one yourself if you don’t find something near you. Usually, there’s an event called a Weekly Drawing Event or Weekend Drawing Event, shortened usually to WDE. Despite the name, all media are welcome. Find out about these events in the All Media Art Events forum; we encourage you to participate, but even if you can’t, please take a look at the work your fellow artists do in a few short hours every week! |

| The next grouping is called The Think Tank. It contains three forums, including that mainstay of all active website forums, the Debates Forum. Flaming and personal attacks on other posters are not permitted, but that doesn’t mean the temperature isn’t pretty high in some of these threads, so be forewarned!
You'll also find the Creativity Forum, which has a sub-forum dedicated to books and programs designed to help artists get out of slumps, such as Julia Cameron’s popular book, The Artist’s Way. Are you blocked or in need of some ways to get those creative juices flowing? Then this is your forum! |

| Need a critique? The next grouping, The WetCanvas! Galleria, contains three forums for you! The WC! Gallery is for those who want a kind and gentle look at their work or just want to post it for others’ enjoyment.
If you want a serious critique, the other two forums in this grouping may interest you. Both have posting guidelines, which you should review first, and for the third forum, you must register to critique the work posted in the forum. See this thread for the posting guidelines for the Open Critique Forum: Open Critique Posting Guidelines This forum has a sub-forum of archived threads which is read-only. Some people are seriously annoyed by critiques that just praise work and do not give any assistance to the artist in improving his or her work. If that’s you, the Structured Critiques Forum is where you want to be. It, too, has posting guidelines, which you can find here: Structured Critiques Forum Guidelines. Those who critique in this forum must be registered, which entails agreeing to a number of standards. If you might like to become a registered critiquer, see this: Register to Critique |
