| It took us a while to decide which design should be painted on the cupboard. We both fancied poppies, and we found some designs in a book on folkart but, I had bought the 'Popular Crafts' magazine available in the UK, which had an article on hobby ceramics. We decided to use the design from the article 'Ploughman's Platter' by Rhonda Thorne. The poppies and grass seemed ideal for our cupboard. |

When we were satisfied with the sizes of the design, we used graphite transfer paper (left) to trace off the design on to our cupboard and door panels. A putty rubber was used to rub off any blemishes that arose, like I forgot to take a ring off my little finger and it left graphite marks all over - I'll remember the next time. My wife had the job of painting the grass, leaves and the poppies, a job that she liked (see image right). My job then was to entertain our kids while she painted away. | ![]() |

| With hindsight, I maybe should've mirrored the design to have opposites at the corners, instead I used the same design in each corner going in the same direction. |
| On the right you can see a close up of the painted design. | ![]() |
