Scribble Story

by, Anne Dallas Bentley and Phyllis Franklin

Once upon a time there was a funny, fluffy, purple bunny that lived in lots of tall green grass.

The bunny was so happy living and hopping around the green grass that he hardly had time to take a nap.

(Note: Notice that I have drawn the green grass, the face on the bunny and given the bunny one more ear. Now...you can tell it is a bunny. While I draw in the details of the story, I am telling the story; making it up as I go.)

Even though it was time to take a nap, the bunny was nowhere close to home. What was he to do?
There were flowers all around that smelled so wonderful, and the sun was shinning down a wonderful warm yellow blanket of comfort.

(Note: When ever you can, turn the crayons over to your budding artist and let them add details as you continue to tell the story. When they catch on, they may even want to add story lines of their own. It is an excellent way to learn story telling as well as drawing skills.)

So, the bunny just ducked his head under the flowers and closed his eyes. He figured that if he could not see anyone, then maybe they could not see him.

What do you think?

(Note: Anne Dallas finishes the story with very little help. This first story left her wanting to do more and more. In her next story, she drew and told her own story complete with a very good moral.)

Having no formal training in painting has not kept her from learning and growing from many other sources. She gives much credit to workshops, art books, and to other artists that have helped her along the way.

She also is an associate editor for WetCanvas!, and enjoys the interaction with her fellow artists on line. She states, "Being involved with the Wetcanvas! community has inspired me to new heights. It has been a pleasure to share, learn, and grow with artists all over the world. I only hope that I can repay the gift in some small way by encouraging others to enjoy the art journey on line as well as off."
