"Decorative Leaf Pins!"

Author: sajemak, Contributing Editor

I began painting by first coating the entire leaf surface with the cadmium yellow medium. Once this was dry, I re-wet the entire top surface with water, and then began to tap on some forest green paint in random areas. You can use real leaves to help you with color placement.

Then I did the same with the moroccan red, but tried to keep some yellow and green showing throughout the piece. A small amount of light foliage green can be added toward the edges of the leaf.

I finished the piece by spattering slightly diluted paint onto the leaf in morrocan red, forest green, and burnt sienna.

The tips can be further enhanced by taking a liner brush and accenting with burnt sienna mixed with a small amount of black.

I added veins to the leaf using my liner brush and burnt sienna.

Once that was dry, I highlighted some of these lines with the cadmium yellow medium, and finally, touches of burnt sienna mixed with a little black.

To finish, I painted the back of the pin with the cadmium yellow medium, and then sprayed the entire piece with a gloss spray.
Which is real and which is fake?
