Making pins to wear can be lots of fun for any age. Once you get started, your head will spin with all the possibilities because you can make pins for any season or any occasion. Making pins would also be a great way to spend some time with any group that needs a fun, fast project.

Follow along as I show you how easy making a decorative leaf pin like my example can be. I hope you enjoy making them as much as I do.

SUPPLIES:
  • Real leaves of your choice!
    (maple leaves are pictured)
  • Watercolor paper (Atleast 140lb)
  • Tracing Paper
  • Graphite paper
  • Pencil
  • Super Glue
  • Pin backings
  • Liner brush of choice
  • Round brush of choice
  • Toothbrush or scruffy old brush for spattering
  • Water Basin
  • Paint Palette
  • Acrylic Paints: Your choice! I used the following ... Cadmium Yellow Medium (Liquitex), Moroccan Red (Delta), Forest Green (Americana), Light Foliage Green (Delta), Burnt Sienna (Delta)
The first thing you will want to do is to select some leaves of medium size and in relatively good condition from your yard, park, or neighborhood.

Then take your chosen leaf and trace it onto tracing paper.

Transfer this pattern, using graphite paper, onto your watercolor paper surface.

Carefully cut out the leaf you have traced on to the watercolor paper.

Once the leaf is cut out, glue the pin backing onto the back of the leaf with some super glue, or glue of your choice. You can use this as a handle if you need to while you paint!
