You can get this effect by using what is called Surfactant. It is a clear liquid you can purchase and dropping it onto the stone pattern causes the paint to move outward to the edges and creates space. I then go back and put some fine droplets on top of these spaces.
So there you have it! Above are some other pictures of the surfactant method and some free form marbling using the skewer.

This is just a beginning. There are many more complex patterns and endless creative ways to use marbling. I hope this was helpful and that you have fun with marbling. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Here is an example of what I do with my marbled paper. I make handmade journals out of them. I also use them for gift cards and in collage. Happy marbling.

I have been creating art in one form or another since my early childhood. For me it's all about color and texture. I love all forms of art and have done fiber art, basketry, art journaling, and I love to make my own hand made journals. About two years ago I took up pastels. I don't like to follow rules, I like to see what wants to happen, what gets created when I move out of the way. That is why I love mixed media so much. My other passions in life include conga drumming, belly dancing, singing and playing the guitar.
