"Pastel Showcase 2003"

Author: Sue_Choppers-Wife, Contributing Editor

Title: Chelsea
Size: 38cm X 48cm
Support: Burgundy Canson (rough side)
Pastels: Unison and a few Derwent Pastel Pencils

Artist: Smudger
WC username: Smudger

My love of pastels first began with pastel pencils but I was
forever stuck for inspiration and never quite sure what to do
next. Then one day I discovered the WC Pastel Forum and it
bestowed on me three very important gifts; inspiration,
instruction and encouragement. Although I still have a very
long way to go, it helps to know that others are travelling the
same road with me and that we are all here to help and inspire
each other.
Title: Fresh as a Daisy
Size: 12"x10"
Canson mi-tentes with Winsor and Newton pastels

Artist: Hayley Eades
WC username: angeline
This was one of my early pieces and secured my love for
pastels!

I have only been pastelling since Feb this year, yet
in that time from being in the Pastel Forum I have
learn't and developed so much! I love the way pastels
are so versatile to the artists style and the colours
sparkle!

From the support and encouragement in the pastel
forum I have sold several works and been commissioned
for more!

Title: Conte Still Life
Size: 9"x12"
white, sanguine and brown conte on
black 60# paper

Artist: Greg
WC username: Vegas Art Guy
This took me a couple of hours to draw, and yes the wine bottle really does
look like that! I picked this drawing because it shows the versatility of conte
crayons and how even on black paper the color really comes across. Not to mention
how you can create impact with negative space as well as with the medium itself.

I've really enjoyed WC in general and the Pastel Forum in particular because it
has made me a better draftsman, which in turn has made me a better artist not
just with conte, pastels and oil pastels, but with pencils, colored pencils
and acrylic paint. The weekly thread has kept me creative even at work as I
drew everything from box cutters to coffee mugs to dirty grungy towels and even
my lunch. I encourage people who have not shown work in WC or in the weekly
thread to do so, you won't be sorry.
